Sivasagar: A mysterious incident has come to light in Assam’s Sivasagar district after a young man, who had reportedly come to participate in a Bhaona performance competition, was found dead inside a hotel room.
The deceased has been identified as Nayanmoni Goswami, a resident of Naoholia village in Namti area of Sivasagar district. His father’s name has been reported as Subhan Goswami.
According to reports, Nayanmoni had checked into Room No. 107 of Aryan Hotel, located near the ASTC point in Sivasagar town, and had been staying there for the past two days. Hotel authorities stated that the youth had informed them he was in town to take part in a Bhaona competition and rehearsal sessions.
The incident came to light after hotel staff noticed that the youth had not come out of his room for several hours on Thursday. Initially, staff members believed he was resting after late-night practice sessions. However, when repeated knocks on the door went unanswered till the afternoon, suspicion grew.
Hotel employees later checked through a ventilation grill above the room and allegedly found the youth hanging inside the locked room. Police were immediately informed about the incident.
Speaking to the media, a hotel representative said Nayanmoni had earlier stayed at the hotel once before and appeared to be associated with traditional Bhaona performances. The representative also claimed that the youth had requested an extension of his stay, saying his practice sessions were still ongoing.
The hotel authority further stated that Nayanmoni had carried valid identification documents during check-in and had reportedly planned to check out on the same day after completing his performance commitments.
Police from Sivasagar Sadar Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation into the incident. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and officials are probing all possible angles surrounding the death.
At present, it remains unclear whether the incident was a case of suicide or if any other circumstances were involved. Police said further details would emerge only after a detailed investigation.
The sudden death of the young Bhaona artist has triggered shock and grief among local residents and members of the cultural community in the region.
