Tinsukia, October 30: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed several major infrastructure projects and inaugurated new industrial and healthcare facilities in Tinsukia on Thursday, October 29, as part of the state government’s efforts to accelerate development across Upper Assam.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the ongoing construction of a 1,000-seat town hall and auditorium complex, which is being developed to accommodate cultural programmes, community gatherings and other public activities. He also reviewed the proposed site for a new Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), aimed at improving transport connectivity in the region.
Another significant initiative examined during the visit was the proposed Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha Samannay Kshetra, a cultural project intended to preserve and promote the region’s historical and cultural heritage.
In a major industrial development, Sarma inaugurated a green Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) block manufacturing plant at Hapjan in Tinsukia. Established by Lightbricks Private Limited, a company associated with the KD Group of Industries, the facility represents an investment of approximately ₹55 crore under the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative.
The manufacturing unit is expected to support the construction sector by producing lightweight concrete blocks while generating employment opportunities and strengthening industrial activity in Upper Assam.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated an expanded dialysis unit at Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital to improve access to kidney-related treatment in the region. During his visit to the medical institution, he reviewed existing infrastructure and other requirements for strengthening healthcare services.
The development activities follow Sarma’s announcement of ₹200 crore for improving urban infrastructure in Tinsukia district, particularly road construction and drainage facilities. The proposed investment is intended to address existing civic infrastructure requirements and improve public amenities.
Highlighting the importance of Upper Assam in the state’s overall development, Sarma emphasised the government’s focus on infrastructure expansion, industrial investment, healthcare facilities and improved connectivity.
He further stated that he would personally monitor the progress of the projects to facilitate their timely completion.
The initiatives form part of the Assam government’s broader infrastructure development programme, combining industrial growth with improvements in public facilities and essential services across Tinsukia district.
