Lovlina Borgohain Opens 4th Mising Sports Carnival in Gogamukh, Nearly 2,500 Athletes Participate

Dhemaji, October 29: Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain inaugurated the fourth edition of the Mising Sports Carnival at Gogamukh in Assam’s Dhemaji district on Thursday, marking the beginning of a major sporting event that has attracted nearly 2,500 participants from different districts of the state.

Organised by Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), the carnival aims to encourage sporting excellence among young people while promoting social awareness. This year’s event places special emphasis on preventing child marriage and empowering women through greater participation in sports and community activities.

A significant highlight of the fourth edition is the introduction of boxing as a competitive event, which has generated considerable interest among participants. The inclusion of the discipline adds a new dimension to the carnival, offering aspiring boxers an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.

Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu attended the inaugural programme along with Jonai MLA Bhubon Pegu and Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka. During the ceremony, Pegu appreciated the initiative undertaken by the student organisation and encouraged the participating athletes to make the most of the opportunities available.

The minister expressed optimism that the sporting platform would help identify promising athletes from the Mising community and provide them with greater exposure.

With participation from across Assam, the Mising Sports Carnival continues to serve as a platform for youth engagement, sporting development and social awareness, while creating opportunities for emerging talent to gain recognition.
