Sonitpur, October 30: Panpur Higher Secondary School, one of the longstanding educational institutions in Assam’s Sonitpur district, is set to receive a major infrastructure boost with an investment of ₹7 crore aimed at strengthening its educational facilities and improving the learning environment for students.
Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu highlighted the infrastructure augmentation initiative for the school, which operates under the Naduar Education Block. The investment is expected to enhance the institution’s capacity to provide better educational opportunities to students from the greater Naduar region.
Established in 1955 as a Middle English (M.E.) school under the leadership of its first headmaster, the late Mahendra Baruah, the institution has played a significant role in expanding educational access in the area for more than seven decades.
The school reached several important milestones during its development. It was upgraded to the High School level in 1961 and provincialised in 1978. In 2021, the institution attained Higher Secondary status, marking another important step in its educational journey.
Spread across 14 bighas of land, Panpur Higher Secondary School currently has 502 students. The institution functions under the leadership of Principal Chitralekha Devi, supported by 14 teachers and three non-teaching staff members who oversee academic and administrative responsibilities.
The ₹7 crore infrastructure investment is expected to strengthen the school’s existing educational environment and support its continued development. The initiative is particularly significant for students in the Naduar region, where the institution has served generations of learners.
With its longstanding contribution to education and the proposed infrastructure improvements, Panpur Higher Secondary School is positioned to further strengthen its role in providing educational opportunities to students in Sonitpur district.
