Cachar, Assam: In a significant operation against the illegal transportation of tobacco products, Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle at Gobindagupa Bridge under the jurisdiction of Kalain Police Station and seized 1,490 medium-sized packets of foreign-made cigarettes allegedly being transported without valid documents. One person was arrested in connection with the case.
According to an official update shared by Cachar Police on X, the interception was carried out during a vehicle checking operation at Gobindagupa Bridge. During the search, police recovered the large consignment of foreign-made cigarettes from the vehicle. As the consignment was not accompanied by the necessary documents, it was immediately seized.
The individual found transporting the cigarettes was taken into custody, and a case has been initiated. Police have not yet released the identity of the accused.
Investigators are now working to trace the source of the seized consignment and ascertain its intended destination. Officials are also probing whether the transportation was linked to a larger network involved in the illegal movement of foreign tobacco products.
The seizure reflects the continued efforts of Cachar Police to intensify surveillance and crack down on the unlawful transportation of contraband goods across the district. Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be made available as the probe progresses.
