Guwahati, October 31, 2026: Households in Assam could face additional expenses on daily essentials as a dairy farmers’ association has reportedly decided to increase the wholesale price of milk by ₹2 per litre.
According to the reported decision, the existing wholesale rate of ₹61.10 per litre will be revised to ₹63.10, potentially affecting dairy traders, milk suppliers and consumers in markets where the new pricing arrangement is implemented.
The proposed revision is expected to influence milk distribution costs, although it remains unclear whether retailers will introduce a corresponding increase in the prices charged to consumers.
Revised Wholesale Milk Rate Set at ₹63.10 Per Litre
The reported price adjustment represents an increase of approximately 3.3 per cent over the existing wholesale rate.
Milk is an essential commodity consumed daily by households, hotels, restaurants and other food businesses. Any increase in procurement costs could eventually affect consumer spending if the additional expenses are passed on through the supply chain.
However, the revised retail selling price has not yet been announced, and the impact may differ depending on local market conditions and individual suppliers.
Consumers May Face Additional Household Expenses
The proposed increase comes amid continuing concerns over household expenditure on food and other essential commodities.
Families purchasing milk regularly could see a rise in their monthly grocery bills if retailers adjust their prices in response to the wholesale revision.
Businesses that rely heavily on milk, including tea stalls, sweet shops and other food establishments, may also face higher operating costs.
Implementation Date Yet to Be Clarified
Further details are awaited regarding the date from which the revised wholesale rate will become applicable and the areas or suppliers covered by the association’s decision.
It is also not yet clear whether the proposed increase will lead to a uniform adjustment in retail milk prices.
Until the new pricing arrangement is formally clarified, consumers will need to check prevailing rates with local milk suppliers and retailers.
