Kamrup: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the state’s ambitious Tech City project at Bongora in Kamrup district, reaffirming the government’s focus on developing the facility into a major hub for technology, innovation, research and entrepreneurship in Northeast India.
According to a post shared by the minister on X, the review was conducted in the presence of Gopinath Narayan, Principal Secretary, Information Technology, and Pawar Narsing Sambhaji, Managing Director of the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON), which is developing the project.
Spread across nearly 100 acres, Tech City is being established as an integrated Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) and IT Park with the objective of strengthening Assam’s digital infrastructure and promoting technology-driven industrial growth in the region.
During the visit, Pegu inspected several facilities that are already operational within the campus, including the 3D Printing Centre of Excellence, 5G Experience Centre, Drone Remote Pilot Training School, and the transit campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati. He said these facilities have the potential to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, skill development and the adoption of emerging technologies.
The minister stated that the state government would soon formulate a comprehensive strategy to ensure the optimal utilisation of the infrastructure created at Tech City. According to him, the initiative is aimed at transforming the campus into a vibrant ecosystem for startups, technology companies, research institutions and industry while creating new opportunities for the youth of Assam.
The project is expected to play a significant role in positioning Assam as a technology and innovation destination in the Northeast by encouraging investment, supporting advanced manufacturing and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
The visit forms part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to accelerate the development of Tech City and maximise its potential as a centre for digital innovation, skill development and technology-led economic growth.
