Tinsukia, July 19: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Saturday reviewed the academic and administrative functioning of 11 colleges in Tinsukia district, with discussions focusing on student enrolment, dropout rates, implementation of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), infrastructure and faculty strength.
The review meeting was held at the District Circuit House in the presence of MLAs Bhaskar Sharma, Suren Phukan, Sanjoy Kishan, Pulok Gohain and Bolin Chetia, along with officials of the Tinsukia District Education Department.
According to Pegu, the meeting assessed the overall performance of the colleges and examined key issues affecting the quality and accessibility of higher education in the district.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, the Education Minister said detailed discussions were held with the principals of the institutions on measures to improve academic outcomes, strengthen institutional capacity and address challenges related to student retention and faculty availability.
A significant part of the review centred on the implementation of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The meeting evaluated the preparedness of the colleges and discussed steps required for the effective rollout of the programme.
The availability of teaching staff and the need to strengthen institutional infrastructure were also reviewed. Participants discussed measures to improve classroom facilities, academic resources and overall campus development to support the growing requirements of students.
Pegu emphasised the importance of coordination among educational institutions, district authorities and public representatives to improve academic standards and expand access to quality education. He also called for sustained efforts to increase enrolment and reduce dropout rates across colleges in the district.
The review meeting forms part of the Assam Government’s ongoing efforts to monitor the functioning of higher educational institutions and assess the implementation of academic reforms at the district level.
