Lucknow, June 16: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has revealed how a large parcel of government land allegedly occupied by a mafia figure in Lucknow was reclaimed and converted into the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPSIFS).
Speaking at a public event in Lucknow, the Chief Minister recalled that a former Director General of Police (DGP) approached him with a file concerning the disputed land on the day of his retirement. According to Adityanath, the land belonged to the Uttar Pradesh Police but had been under the control of a mafia-linked individual.
The Chief Minister said the matter involved around 120 acres of land located approximately three kilometres from Lucknow airport, making it a highly valuable property. He added that the alleged occupier had already begun plotting the land for development.
Adityanath stated that after reviewing the documents, he ordered an examination of the revenue records and sought details regarding officials who had allegedly facilitated decisions in favour of the occupier. He said the matter was subsequently referred to the Board of Revenue, where a stay was imposed on the disputed proceedings.
According to the Chief Minister, the case later reached the High Court, while an FIR was also registered. He further claimed that government authorities initiated action against the encroachment and deployed bulldozers at the site as part of the recovery process.
Highlighting the outcome of the operation, Adityanath said the reclaimed land now houses the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences, which has emerged as a major centre for forensic education, research and training in the state.
The Chief Minister cited the transformation of the property as an example of the state government’s action against organized crime and illegal land occupation. He said the development reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement infrastructure and promoting forensic science capabilities in Uttar Pradesh.
