New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has emphasized the crucial role of smart border technologies and the Land Port Management System in strengthening India’s border security framework. He stated that the integration of advanced border management solutions will help create safer, stronger, and more impenetrable national borders in the coming years.
Speaking on the government’s vision for border security, Shah said India is moving forward with a comprehensive four-pronged strategy to ensure the protection of its land borders through the concept of Smart Borders. He expressed confidence that the Land Ports Authority of India will play a significant role in the successful implementation of this vision.
The Home Minister highlighted that the Land Port Management System has been designed to connect all stakeholders involved in border operations while ensuring robust security measures. The system is expected to facilitate secure cross-border movement of people and goods, streamline trade activities, and enhance overall border management efficiency.
According to Shah, the combination of Smart Border initiatives and the Land Port Management System will contribute significantly to building highly secure and resilient borders. He noted that these technologies will not only strengthen surveillance and security mechanisms but also improve coordination among various agencies operating at border checkpoints.
The Union Home Minister further stated that once the Ministry of Home Affairs finalizes the broader Smart Border framework, its structure and operational model will become clearer. He reiterated that the Land Port Management System will remain a key component of the government’s strategy to modernize border infrastructure and enhance national security.
The government’s Smart Border initiative aims to leverage advanced technology, integrated monitoring systems, and digital infrastructure to improve border management while facilitating legitimate travel and trade. Officials believe that the adoption of such systems will help India address emerging security challenges more effectively and ensure better management of its international land borders.
