Jorhat, June 26: A jewellery showroom in Assam’s Jorhat has come under scrutiny after a customer alleged that a gold ornament purchased from the store several years ago was found to be fake during a recent purity test. The incident has raised concerns among local residents and customers over the authenticity of gold jewellery sold in the market.
According to the complainant, the gold ear ornament was purchased around four years ago from Roji Jewellery, located on TRP Road in Jorhat. The customer claimed that the ornament was recently tested at a bank, where it was reportedly found to be non-genuine. Following the test, the customer approached the showroom and lodged a protest, drawing the attention of other customers and local residents.
The showroom owner, identified as Bapu Mundia, reportedly acknowledged the issue while speaking to members of the media and offered compensation amounting to four times the value of the ornament. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident and the authenticity of the claim have not yet been independently verified by the authorities.
The incident has prompted demands from local residents for a fair and transparent investigation to determine whether it was an isolated case or whether other customers may also have been affected. Residents have also called for appropriate action if any wrongdoing is established. As of now, no official statement from the district administration or law enforcement authorities regarding the outcome of any investigation has been released.
