Guwahati: The Guwahati Police have busted a Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) racket and arrested two alleged operatives after recovering counterfeit currency with a face value of ₹2.56 lakh during a special operation at Six Mile in the city.
According to the Guwahati Police, a team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) attached to Dispur Police Station acted on specific intelligence inputs and intercepted a Swift Dzire bearing registration number AS01PC8433 at Six Mile. The operation led to the arrest of Debojit Deori and Ajay Biswakarma, both residents of Silapathar.
During the search, police seized counterfeit Indian currency notes with a face value of ₹2.56 lakh, comprising eight bundles of ₹500 denomination notes. Several other incriminating articles were also recovered from the vehicle and taken into custody as evidence.
Police have registered a case and initiated legal proceedings against the accused. Investigators are now probing the source of the counterfeit currency and examining whether the arrested individuals have links to a larger network involved in the production and circulation of fake Indian currency.
The seizure is part of Guwahati Police’s continued efforts to crack down on organised financial crimes and prevent the circulation of counterfeit currency in the region. Further investigation into the case is underway.
