Guwahati: Guwahati Police have solved the recent Hengrabari dacoity case with the arrest of four accused, including the alleged mastermind, who is the victim’s son-in-law. Police also recovered a robbed Samsung mobile phone and the car allegedly used during the commission of the crime.

According to Guwahati Police, the breakthrough was achieved by a team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) under the jurisdiction of Dispur Police Station following an investigation into the dacoity.

The arrested accused have been identified as Asif Iftikar Hussain (28) of Lichubagan, Ratan Barman (30) of Barbori, Dipen Kakoti (38) of Sarthebari and Pranjit Baishya (38) of Belsor.

During the operation, police recovered and seized a Swift Dzire car (Registration No. AS01DR8727), which investigators said was allegedly used in carrying out the crime. A Samsung mobile phone, reported to have been robbed during the incident, was also recovered.

In a significant development, police said Dipen Kakoti, one of the arrested accused and the son-in-law of the victim, was the alleged mastermind behind the dacoity. Investigators suspect he played a key role in planning and coordinating the crime.

Police have initiated legal proceedings against all four accused. Officials said further investigation is underway to determine whether additional individuals were involved and to establish the full sequence of events leading to the dacoity.

The arrests and recovery were announced by Guwahati Police through an official post on X, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the case. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and additional evidence may emerge as the probe progresses.
