Guwahati: Acting on findings gathered during an ongoing financial fraud investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Sanjay Bhagat, who is accused of orchestrating a multi-crore online investment scam that allegedly targeted unsuspecting investors through fraudulent trading schemes.
Bhagat was apprehended in West Bengal following a prolonged investigation by the central agency. He was subsequently brought to Guwahati and produced before the Special CBI Court for further legal proceedings.
According to the CBI’s preliminary investigation, the accused allegedly enticed investors with promises of exceptionally high returns through fake online trading and investment plans. Officials suspect that the scheme defrauded numerous investors, resulting in financial losses running into several crores of rupees.
Investigators are now working to determine the full scale of the alleged fraud. The probe is focused on identifying other individuals who may have been involved in the operation, tracing the movement of the defrauded funds, and gathering additional evidence related to the case.
While the agency has not disclosed the total amount involved or the number of victims affected, officials indicated that the investigation remains active and further developments are expected.
The CBI has stated that the probe is continuing, with additional legal action likely if further evidence or involvement of other suspects comes to light.
