Basistha Police Bust Three-Member Burglary Gang, Solve Two Theft Cases in Guwahati

Guwahati, July 20: The Basistha Police under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) have solved two burglary cases reported earlier this month with the arrest of a three-member gang allegedly involved in the crimes. The operation also led to the recovery of stolen cash, electronic items, an e-rickshaw allegedly used during the offences, and burglary tools.

According to the Guwahati Police, the burglary cases were reported at Basistha Police Station on July 11 and July 13. Following a detailed investigation, an EGPD team identified the suspects and conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of all three accused.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Manoj Baruah (24), a resident of Simaluguri.
  • Mridul Basumatary alias Thangbai (21), a resident of Seuj Nagar.
  • Nikhil Deka (24), a resident of Belsor.

Further investigation led to the recovery of the following items allegedly stolen during the burglaries:

  • One LED television.
  • One Dell laptop.
  • Cash amounting to ₹75,000.
  • One e-rickshaw bearing registration number AS01GR2027, allegedly used in the commission of the crimes.
  • Burglary tools, including one hammer, one screwdriver, two pliers, and one wire cutter.

Police said legal action has been initiated against the accused in connection with the cases. Investigators are also examining whether the three suspects have any involvement in other burglary incidents reported in Guwahati or adjoining areas.

The Guwahati Police shared details of the successful operation through an official post on X, highlighting the efforts of the Basistha Police team in cracking both burglary cases and recovering the stolen property. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
