
Guwahati: A team from Basistha Police Station arrested three suspected drug peddlers and seized 60 vials of heroin weighing 73.73 grams during a raid at Khanapara, Guwahati Police said on Sunday.
According to the police, the operation was conducted by the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) as part of its ongoing drive against the illegal drug trade. The raid led to the apprehension of Dipankar Saikia (23), a resident of Jorhat, and Bhaskar Borah (24) and Rahul Das (33), both residents of Guwahati.
During the search operation, police recovered 60 vials containing heroin with a total weight of 73.73 grams from the possession of the accused. The seized contraband has been taken into custody, while investigators are examining the case to identify the source of the narcotics and any possible links to a wider trafficking network.
Besides the arrests, the police also rescued 16 persons affected by substance addiction from the hideout. They have been shifted to a rehabilitation centre, where they will undergo treatment and counselling.
Police said legal action has been initiated against the three accused under the relevant provisions of law. The operation is part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign being carried out across Assam to curb narcotics trafficking and encourage the rehabilitation of individuals affected by drug addiction.
