Bengaluru, June 24: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President and senior Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad has demanded a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge into alleged financial irregularities linked to funds collected for Ayodhya. He claimed that reports of misuse of donations made by devotees warrant an independent and transparent investigation.
Speaking to the media, Hariprasad alleged that around ₹200 crore had been misappropriated and criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the matter. He said that an inquiry by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would not be sufficient and called for a judicial investigation led by a sitting Supreme Court judge to establish the facts.
Hariprasad further alleged that the BJP had turned Ayodhya into a commercial venture and questioned the handling of funds donated by devotees from across the country. He said the issue was serious and deserved thorough scrutiny to ensure accountability and maintain public trust.
The Congress leader also stated that the Ayodhya movement had involved significant public sentiment and sacrifice over several decades. Any allegations of financial irregularities connected to the temple project, he said, should be investigated impartially and transparently.
There has been no immediate response from the BJP regarding Hariprasad’s remarks. No official findings have been released concerning the allegations, and the matter remains subject to investigation and verification.
