Guwahati, July 20: Assam is set to establish the Northeast’s first large-scale tile manufacturing plant at the upcoming Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) Industrial Park in Naduar, a project expected to boost industrial growth and generate significant employment opportunities in the state.
The development was announced by Assam Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprise Minister Bimal Borah, who reviewed the progress of infrastructure and ongoing projects at the industrial park during an inspection visit.
According to the minister, the proposed tile manufacturing unit will be developed with an investment of approximately ₹200 crore and will have the capacity to manufacture around two lakh square metres of tiles per day. The project is expected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a major boost to the state’s manufacturing sector.
The AIDC Industrial Park at Naduar is being developed over more than 2,300 bighas of land, making it the largest industrial park planned in Assam. The project aims to provide modern industrial infrastructure and attract investments across multiple manufacturing sectors.
During the review, Borah assessed the progress of key infrastructure works and said the industrial park is expected to play an important role in strengthening Assam’s industrial ecosystem. He noted that the project is intended to support manufacturing-led growth, encourage fresh investments and create large-scale employment opportunities in the state.
The minister also stated that the development forms part of the state’s broader industrialisation efforts under the Advantage Assam initiative, which seeks to position Assam as a competitive investment destination in the Northeast.
The upcoming industrial park is expected to accommodate a range of manufacturing industries and allied businesses, contributing to economic diversification, improved industrial infrastructure and enhanced employment prospects. Officials believe the project will also support the growth of ancillary industries and strengthen the state’s overall industrial value chain.
The update was shared by the minister through an official post on X after reviewing the facilities and ongoing development works at the Naduar Industrial Park. Construction and infrastructure development at the site are progressing, with the government aiming to accelerate industrial investment and manufacturing capacity in Assam.
