Guwahati, June 1: The much-anticipated expansion of the Assam Council of Ministers led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been finalized, with the swearing-in ceremony set to take place in Guwahati on June 5.
The announcement comes after the Chief Minister secured approval for the proposed cabinet expansion following a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi. Earlier, Dr. Sarma had indicated that the expansion would take place within a few days, prompting his visit to the national capital for consultations with senior leaders of the ruling establishment.
During his visit, the Chief Minister reportedly held discussions with top central leaders, including Narendra Modi. Following these meetings, Dr. Sarma confirmed the cabinet expansion through a post on social media on Sunday.
According to the Chief Minister, the expanded ministry will be sworn in on June 5 in Guwahati. While the official list of new ministers has not yet been made public, political circles are closely watching the developments, as the expansion is expected to strengthen the state government’s administrative and political machinery ahead of key governance initiatives.
The upcoming reshuffle and induction of new faces into the Assam Cabinet are expected to generate significant interest across the state. Further details regarding the portfolios and the ministers to be inducted are likely to be announced in the coming days.
The June 5 ceremony in Guwahati will mark the first cabinet expansion of the current term after receiving the necessary approval from the party’s central leadership.
