Akhilesh Yadav Says SP and Congress Preparing on All 403 UP Assembly Seats, Claims BJP Can Be Defeated

Lucknow, June 15: Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that both the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress are preparing for all 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, asserting that the combined efforts of the two parties would strengthen the opposition’s challenge against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking during a press interaction, Yadav remarked that if one party is preparing for all 403 Assembly seats and the other is doing the same, it effectively amounts to “double preparation.” He said the combined political groundwork of the SP and Congress across the state’s 403 constituencies would enhance their electoral prospects ahead of the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

Explaining his point, Yadav said that both parties are independently working across all constituencies, which, in his view, translates into preparations covering the equivalent of 806 Assembly-level efforts. He argued that such extensive groundwork would help the opposition mount a stronger challenge against the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

The remarks come as political parties have begun intensifying their organizational activities and outreach campaigns ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Political observers view Yadav’s statement as an indication of continued cooperation between the Samajwadi Party and Congress within the broader opposition framework in the state.

Akhilesh Yadav, who currently serves as the national president of the Samajwadi Party and Member of Parliament from Kannauj, has repeatedly positioned his party as a key challenger to the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP has not immediately responded to Yadav’s latest remarks. However, political activity in Uttar Pradesh is expected to intensify further as parties prepare their strategies for the upcoming electoral battles in India’s most populous state.
