
Guwahati, July 19: Guwahati Police have arrested three alleged thieves, including two women, and recovered stolen electrical cables and copper wires after solving a theft case reported from Beltola within 12 hours of the incident.
According to Guwahati Police, a team from Basistha Police Station under the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) carried out the operation following a theft reported from Lakhimi Nagar Bylane in Beltola.
The arrested accused have been identified as Jesmina Begum of Sijubari, Amela Khatun (28) of Hatigaon and Imran Ali (28) of Sijubari.
Police said the investigation led to the recovery of the stolen property, which included:
- A bundle of black PVC-insulated submersible borewell motor cable weighing approximately 20 kg;
- A bundle of insulated multi-coloured copper wire weighing around 11.5 kg; and
- A bundle of stripped copper electrical wire weighing approximately 750 grams.
The recovered materials were seized during the operation and are believed to be linked to the theft reported from the Beltola locality.
Sharing details of the case in a post on X, Guwahati Police said the accused were apprehended within 12 hours of the theft being reported, and the stolen items were recovered during the investigation.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused. Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the three were involved in any other theft or property-related offences in Guwahati.
The case remains under investigation.
