
Guwahati: A team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) arrested two alleged thieves during an operation under the jurisdiction of Basistha Police Station and recovered several items suspected to have been stolen, Guwahati Police said.
The accused have been identified as Safiyal Ali alias Hab (21), a resident of Sawkuchi, and Rupchand Ali alias Raja (21), a resident of Dakhingaon. They were apprehended following a police operation conducted by officers of Basistha Police Station.
During the operation, police seized an iron spade head, a screwdriver, a wrench, a stainless steel knife, an iron cutting machine and a bundle of copper electric wire, all suspected to be stolen.
According to Guwahati Police, the recovered items have been seized as evidence, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the two accused. Investigators are also examining whether the duo may have links to other property-related offences in the city.
The arrests were announced by Guwahati Police in a post on X, which said further investigation into the case is underway.
