Two Drug Peddlers Arrested in Guwahati; Heroin, Bike and Cash Seized During Police Operation

Guwahati: Continuing its crackdown on the illegal drug trade, the Guwahati Police arrested two suspected drug peddlers during an operation carried out in the Katabari area under the jurisdiction of Gorchuk Police Station. The operation led to the seizure of suspected heroin, a motorcycle and cash believed to be connected to the alleged narcotics activity.

According to Guwahati Police, the operation was conducted by a team from the West Guwahati Police District (WGPD) attached to Gorchuk Police Station. The accused have been identified as Jintu Mandal (35), a resident of Lalganesh, and Azan Ahmed (19), a resident of Barsapara.

During the search, police recovered nine vials containing suspected heroin weighing a total of 10.54 grams. Officers also seized a motorcycle bearing registration number AS01DS9801 and ₹5,680 in cash from the possession of the accused.

The two individuals were taken into custody at the scene, and the seized items have been taken into police possession as part of the investigation.

Police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and whether the accused were linked to a larger drug trafficking network operating in and around the city.

The latest action forms part of the Assam Police’s sustained campaign against narcotics under the #AssamAgainstDrugs initiative, which has seen intensified enforcement efforts across the state to curb the supply and distribution of illegal drugs.
