Jonai (Assam): Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Saturday attended the concluding session of the 17th General Conference of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) in Jonai, where he called for empowering the younger generation through education, skill development, and leadership while preserving the Mising community’s rich language, culture, and traditions.
The three-day conference, which began on July 9 at Mising Kristi Bhawan, concluded in the presence of MLAs Bhubon Gam, Bhubon Pegu, and Naba Kumar Doley, along with delegates, student leaders, and members of the Mising community.
Addressing the gathering, Pegu said the younger generation should be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and vision required to succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy without losing touch with their cultural identity. He urged members and well-wishers of TMPK to continue nurturing future leaders while preserving the community’s heritage for generations to come.
The minister also lauded the contribution of Takam Mising Porin Kebang, describing it as a key institution in the social and educational development of the Mising community. Founded in 1971, TMPK has grown into one of the leading student organisations in Assam, playing a significant role in promoting education, safeguarding the Mising language and culture, and advocating for the rights and aspirations of the community.
He emphasised that sustainable development and cultural preservation should go hand in hand, noting that education and skill development are essential for creating greater opportunities for young people while strengthening indigenous identity.
The conference served as a platform for discussions on education, youth development, cultural preservation, and issues concerning the Mising community. Representatives, delegates, and community members from different parts of Assam participated in the concluding session.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening educational opportunities, empowering Mising youth, and preserving the community’s cultural heritage while preparing the next generation to meet future challenges.
