Guwahati, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserving the legacy of legendary artist Bhupen Hazarika by unveiling a vision to transform the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha into a world-class cultural destination.
The Chief Minister shared the update on X after reviewing the project’s concept proposals during a site visit. In his post, Sarma described the Samannay Tirtha as “a sacred space in Assam’s cultural and civilisational consciousness” and said the proposed transformation would coincide with the birth centenary celebrations of the iconic musician, poet, filmmaker, and cultural ambassador, affectionately known as Sudhakantha.
According to the Chief Minister, the redevelopment plan seeks to create a vibrant cultural destination where visitors of all generations can experience and celebrate Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s enduring legacy. The proposed concept includes a thoughtfully designed campus featuring a new amphitheatre and immersive digital experiences that aim to present the life, music, literary works, and contributions of the legendary artist in an engaging and contemporary manner.
During the inspection, Sarma reviewed the conceptual designs prepared for the redevelopment and discussed the vision for creating a space that reflects Assam’s rich cultural heritage while embracing modern presentation techniques. The initiative is intended to ensure that the ideals, creativity, and artistic contributions of Dr. Hazarika continue to inspire future generations.
