Guwahati: Assam’s efforts to strengthen agricultural quality assurance received a boost as the Pesticide Testing Laboratory under construction at Ulubari has crossed 80 per cent completion, paving the way for improved monitoring of agricultural inputs and safer food production in the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, sharing the development on X, said the state government is focused on strengthening the entire food value chain to provide quality food products to consumers while ensuring informed choices and stable incomes for farmers. He said the upcoming Pesticide Testing Laboratory will play an important role in advancing these goals.
The progress of the project was announced by Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika, who said the laboratory is nearing completion and will significantly enhance Assam’s agricultural testing infrastructure. Once operational, the facility is expected to strengthen quality assurance, improve regulatory oversight and increase farmers’ confidence in the pesticides and other agricultural inputs available in the market.
The laboratory will be equipped to scientifically test pesticide samples, helping authorities verify compliance with quality standards and supporting efforts to promote responsible use of agricultural chemicals. It is also expected to contribute to safer farming practices and better food safety across the state.
The project reflects the Assam Government’s continued focus on modernising agricultural infrastructure through scientific interventions aimed at improving productivity, protecting consumer interests and building a stronger, more resilient agricultural value chain.
