Guwahati: In a major blow to drug trafficking networks, joint anti-narcotics operations carried out by Assam Police and security forces have resulted in the seizure of 80,000 Yaba tablets valued at nearly ₹8 crore and the arrest of two accused, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday.
Sharing the development on social media platform X, the Chief Minister commended the coordinated efforts of Cachar Police, Hailakandi Police, and the Directorate General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) in carrying out the successful operations. Reaffirming the state’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, Sarma praised the law enforcement agencies for their continued crackdown on drug trafficking under the #AssamAgainstDrugs campaign.

According to the Chief Minister, the joint operations led to the recovery of 80,000 Yaba tablets worth nearly ₹8 crore and the apprehension of two individuals. However, he did not disclose the locations of all the operations or provide further details about the accused.
Meanwhile, Hailakandi Police shared details of one of the operations conducted earlier on Sunday. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team of Hailakandi Police, Cachar Police, and 38 Assam Rifles launched an operation at Lakhirbond Bypass and apprehended Karim Uddin (50), son of late Ashad Uddin and a resident of Bagabazar Rajgarh Part-IV under Dholai Police Station in Cachar district.
During the operation, the team recovered 30,000 Yaba tablets, weighing approximately 3.3 kg, from his possession. Police estimated the market value of the seized contraband at around ₹1.3 crore.
Hailakandi Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the narcotics and identify others involved in the trafficking network.
The details of the remaining seizure, which together with the Lakhirbond operation accounted for the total recovery of 80,000 Yaba tablets, have not yet been disclosed by the authorities.
The latest seizures underscore the Assam government’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking, with coordinated operations involving the state police and central security forces continuing across the state. Officials have reiterated that sustained enforcement action will continue to dismantle narcotics networks and curb the illegal drug trade in Assam.
