Kolkata, June 30: A video from the 2024 Budget Session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly has resurfaced on social media, showing then West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly objecting to BJP legislators raising slogans inside the House during the Budget proceedings.
Addressing the Assembly, Banerjee condemned the disruption, describing it as “dirty politics” and asserting that the Legislative Assembly was “not a BJP party office.” She said the Opposition should be allowed to express its views only after the Budget presentation, rather than interrupting the proceedings.
Banerjee also said the people had a right to know about the government’s work and the state’s economic situation without disruptions. She accused the BJP of politicising the Assembly and acting against the interests of West Bengal.
During her remarks, Banerjee referred to the suspension of 147 Opposition Members of Parliament in Parliament, stating that her government did not wish to adopt a similar approach. She maintained that while the Opposition was free to debate and criticise government policies after the Budget, disrupting official proceedings was unacceptable.
The incident took place during the 2024 West Bengal Budget Session, when BJP MLAs staged protests and raised slogans, leading to heated exchanges inside the Assembly.
