
Dhemaji, Assam: A tragic road accident in Assam’s Dhemaji district has claimed the life of a young entrepreneur, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.
The deceased has been identified as Monika Sonowal, a fruit salad and juice vendor known to many commuters and residents in the area. Monika had earned recognition for her hard work and determination as she built a livelihood through her roadside fruit salad stall in Dhemaji.
According to reports, the accident occurred on Thursday night after Monika had finished her day’s work and was returning home on her scooter. Preliminary information suggests that her scooter reportedly skidded on gravel and sand scattered on the road. Moments later, a truck approaching from behind allegedly ran over her.
She was rushed for medical treatment, but succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital, sources said.
Monika’s untimely death has sparked grief among residents of Dhemaji, many of whom knew her through her small business and admired her efforts to become self-reliant. Local people described her as a hardworking and cheerful young woman who had overcome numerous personal challenges in life.
Residents said Monika had lost her parents at a young age and had worked tirelessly to establish herself through her roadside business. Her fruit salad and juice stall had become a familiar stop for travellers and locals alike.
Only hours before the fatal accident, Monika had reportedly shared a post on social media inviting customers to visit her stall, unaware that it would be one of her final public messages.
The tragic incident has also raised concerns about road safety, particularly the presence of construction materials such as sand and gravel on public roads, which can pose serious risks to motorists.
