A tragic road accident claimed the life of a young biker in the early hours of the night in Guwahati after a speeding motorcycle crashed into an electric pole in front of the Assam Legislative Assembly complex in Dispur.
According to reports, the rider was travelling from Ganeshguri on a high-speed Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle when he reportedly lost control near the Assam Assembly building. The bike rammed into an electric pole with tremendous force and immediately caught fire.
The rider suffered severe burn injuries, particularly on his face, and died on the spot before help could arrive. Eyewitnesses stated that flames quickly engulfed the motorcycle moments after the collision.
The deceased has been identified as a youth from Dhemaji district, reportedly belonging to the Chutia community. Police later recovered the partially burnt body and sent it to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination.
Officials from Dispur Police and the fire and emergency services rushed to the spot soon after the incident and managed to douse the flames. The burnt motorcycle was later removed from the scene.
A local eyewitness said the biker was riding alone and was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. However, the impact of the crash and the subsequent fire proved fatal.
The shocking incident has once again raised concerns over reckless speeding and late-night road safety in Guwahati. Police are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
