Nalbari, Assam: Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah and Barkhetri MLA Narayan Deka on Tuesday visited the residence of student leader Madhurya Barman in Gangapur, Nalbari, to express condolences to his family following his death in a recent incident that has drawn widespread public attention.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah said the incident has deeply affected people across the region and stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation. He stated that although the person allegedly involved in the case has died, authorities must determine whether any other individuals played a role in the incident.
“The entire matter must be investigated thoroughly. It is important to find out whether anyone assisted or supported the accused and whether others were involved,” Baruah said.
The MLA said the state government and police administration are treating the matter seriously and have been instructed to take all necessary steps to uncover the facts. He also emphasized the need for stronger social awareness and vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Providing an update on the condition of the injured woman linked to the case, Baruah said her health had shown improvement. According to him, she had received blood transfusions after suffering significant blood loss and had regained consciousness, although she continues to undergo treatment for multiple injuries.
During the visit, Baruah expressed sympathy for the bereaved family, noting that Madhurya Barman was the only child of his parents. He assured that efforts would be made to provide assistance to the family and said the matter would be discussed with the state government to explore possible support measures.
The MLA also acknowledged local demands for establishing a police outpost in the area and said the government would examine the proposal. He called for greater cooperation between the public, police and district administration to maintain law and order and prevent such incidents from recurring.
The incident has sparked concern among residents of Nalbari and neighbouring areas, with many calling for a fair investigation and appropriate action based on the findings of the authorities.
