Gauhati University VC Highlights Emerging Research Trends in Higher Education in Assam

Jorhat, September 11, 2026: Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta delivered an insightful talk on the changing landscape of research and higher education in Assam at Jagannath Barooah University (JBU), Jorhat, on September 11.

The lecture, titled “The Changing Landscape: Navigating Contemporary Research Trends in Higher Education in Assam,” was held at the Guna Govinda Dutta Auditorium of Jagannath Barooah University.

Prof. Mahanta discussed the paradigm shifts brought about by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, highlighting the growing importance of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to research. He stressed that collaboration across academic disciplines can play a significant role in addressing emerging academic and societal challenges while encouraging innovation.

As part of the programme, Prof. Mahanta also formally released the Assamese book “গৱেষণা কি?” (What is Research?), authored by Prof. Jyoti Prasad Saikia, Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath Barooah University.

The programme witnessed participation from more than 400 faculty members, research scholars and students, creating an engaging platform for discussions on contemporary research practices and the future direction of higher education in Assam.

The interaction underlined the need for universities and researchers to embrace collaborative, innovative and multidisciplinary research approaches in response to the evolving academic and social landscape.
