SONAPUR: A wave of remembrance swept through Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur on Thursday as admirers gathered to commemorate the first death anniversary of Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg.
The three-day Zubeen Divas observance, being held from September 17 to 19, has brought together fans and well-wishers at the memorial where the singer’s final resting place is located. The venue has been prepared to receive a large number of visitors from different parts of Assam.
The memorial has been decorated with flowers and fresh gamusas as part of the arrangements for the commemorative programme. The Assam government is also supporting the arrangements at the venue in view of the expected gathering.
The opening day’s programme began with prayers in the morning, with a Naam-Prasanga scheduled later in the day. Visitors have been given the opportunity to remember Zubeen in their own way, including through prayers, music and other forms of tribute.
The second day, September 18, will focus primarily on cultural programmes, with performances planned throughout the day. The organisers have indicated that the day’s activities will conclude in the evening rather than continuing late into the night.
The concluding programme on September 19 will have a stronger religious focus, with Bhagawat Naam and other spiritual activities scheduled during the day. A Bhaona performance is also planned for the evening, beginning at around 6:30 pm.
The three-day observance is being held as an opportunity for admirers to remember Garg and reflect on his contribution to Assamese music and culture. His family has invited people to participate in the commemorative programmes according to their own way of paying tribute.
With thousands of visitors expected at Zubeen Kshetra, organisers have urged people attending the events to maintain discipline and cooperate with the arrangements so that the programmes can proceed peacefully.
The observance is expected to continue drawing admirers from across Assam through September 19, when the main anniversary-related religious and cultural programmes will be held.
