Two Arrested as Guwahati Police Tighten Net on Car-Lifting Gang

Guwahati: The investigation into an alleged organised car-lifting network in Guwahati has widened with the arrest of two more suspected members, taking the total number of people arrested in connection with the network to nine, according to Guwahati Police.

An East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station carried out the latest arrests. The accused have been identified as Raju Deka alias Petla, a resident of Sarthebari, and Jun Deka alias Boltu, from Hagrabari.

Police said the two suspects were allegedly involved in eight separate car-lifting incidents reported from different parts of Guwahati and its adjoining areas. The cases were linked to Chandmari, Panjabari, Noonmati, Panikhaiti, Jalukbari, Maligaon and Dharapur.

During the operation, police recovered several tools allegedly used in the theft of vehicles. The seized items include a master key, an Allen key, a screwdriver and a wrench.

According to the police investigation, the stolen vehicles were allegedly transported to a neighbouring state after being lifted from different locations and subsequently sold there.

The latest arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into the wider network. Guwahati Police said nine members of the alleged car-lifting gang have so far been arrested, while further investigation is continuing to uncover the network’s activities and identify any other persons involved.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested suspects as the investigation continues.
