Guwahati: A police operation in Guwahati has led to the arrest of three alleged members of a theft gang and the recovery of a substantial quantity of aluminium and copper materials, according to Guwahati Police.

A team from the Paltan Bazaar Police Station carried out the operation and intercepted the suspects in connection with a theft-related case. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Abdul Hai, 27, from Bilasipara; Md Hasanur Rehman, 27, from Gouripur; and Jitu Sarkar, 34, from Dangtol.

Police said several suspected stolen items were recovered from the accused during the operation. The seized materials include 25 kg of aluminium conductor wire, 2 kg of copper wire, seven copper AC pipes and 700 grams of aluminium wire.

The recovery points to the suspected theft of electrical and metal materials, while investigators are expected to examine the source of the recovered items and determine whether the accused are linked to other theft incidents.

Guwahati Police said legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested persons. The operation was conducted by the Paltan Bazaar Police Station team, as part of ongoing efforts to curb theft and other property-related offences in the city.

The latest action highlights continued police efforts to identify and dismantle groups allegedly involved in stealing and dealing in valuable electrical and metal materials in Guwahati.
