Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on Mamata Banerjee Resurface Amid Opposition Unity Calls

New Delhi, June 11: Remarks made by Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during the West Bengal Assembly election campaign have resurfaced on social media amid recent discussions on opposition unity.

During an election rally in West Bengal earlier this year, Gandhi had strongly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee over the handling of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case in Kolkata.

Addressing supporters, Gandhi alleged that those responsible for the crime were protected by the state government and questioned the lack of accountability in the matter. He further claimed that the TMC government’s actions were creating political space for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

“Mamata Ji is opening the road for the BJP in Bengal. Had proper action been taken in cases like RG Kar, there would have been no BJP threat here,” Gandhi said during the campaign speech.

The Congress leader also accused the state government of corruption and failing to work effectively for the people of West Bengal.

The remarks have gained renewed attention following recent political developments in which opposition parties, including the Congress and the TMC, have been discussing broader cooperation against the BJP at the national level. Political observers have highlighted the contrast between Gandhi’s earlier criticism of Mamata Banerjee and the ongoing efforts to strengthen opposition coordination.

While no formal alliance announcement has been made, the renewed circulation of Gandhi’s comments has triggered debate among political circles and on social media regarding the changing dynamics of opposition politics in India.
