Nagaon: Preparations for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election have intensified, with the district administration reviewing arrangements at polling stations across the district. A review meeting was held on Monday to assess the readiness of officials assigned to oversee the electoral process.
The meeting was chaired by District Election Officer and District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia and attended by zonal and sector officers engaged in election duties.
According to the district administration, a total of 1,339 polling stations across five Legislative Assembly constituencies in Nagaon district will be monitored through 203 sectors and 53 zonal officers.
During the meeting, officials discussed various challenges that could arise during polling and reviewed the arrangements required at individual polling stations. The officers were instructed to visit every polling station under their jurisdiction before polling and identify any shortcomings that need to be addressed.
The review covered important aspects including the geographical location of polling stations, road connectivity, transportation facilities, communication arrangements and security requirements.
District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia directed the officials to complete all necessary preparations within the stipulated timeframe. He also emphasized the need to ensure basic facilities such as adequate lighting, boundary protection, drinking water, toilets and proper road connectivity at polling locations.
The officers were further asked to remain alert and take corrective measures wherever deficiencies are found so that voters and election personnel do not face difficulties on polling day.
Under the election management structure, one sector generally covers around 10 polling stations, while a zonal officer is responsible for approximately three to four sectors. The arrangement is intended to facilitate effective monitoring and coordination during the election process.
Additional District Commissioners Gopal Sarma and Pallabi Gogoi attended the meeting along with officials and employees from the Education and Public Health departments and Circle Officers from across the district.
The meeting formed part of the district administration’s preparations to ensure that polling-related arrangements are completed ahead of the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election.
