MON, NAGALAND: Nagaland Governor Shri Nand Kishore Yadav visited Lungwa in Mon district on August 18, where he interacted with local community representatives and reviewed issues concerning development and security in the remote border region.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Governor to engage directly with the Chief Angh, community leaders and representatives of civil society organisations. During the interaction, discussions covered several issues affecting people in the area, including road and communication connectivity, education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities and infrastructure development.
The visit was hosted by the Assam Rifles, which briefed the Governor on the prevailing security situation in the region. Officials also outlined various initiatives undertaken by the force for the welfare and empowerment of communities living in the border area.
According to the Assam Rifles, the Governor took note of the region’s distinctive cultural heritage and the concerns raised by local stakeholders during his interaction.
At the Company Operating Base (COB) in Lungwa, Governor Yadav was also briefed on the security environment and the Assam Rifles’ ongoing engagement with the local population.
The Governor appreciated the force’s efforts in maintaining security while working closely with communities in the remote border belt. He also acknowledged initiatives aimed at strengthening engagement between security personnel and residents.
Lungwa, also referred to as Longwa in some government records, is located in Mon district along the India-Myanmar border and is known for its distinctive cultural and geographical significance. Government records identify Lungwa as one of the locations in Mon district associated with development and border-related initiatives.
The visit comes as the Nagaland administration continues to focus on development, connectivity and community engagement in remote areas of the state. Governor Nand Kishore Yadav, who assumed office as Nagaland’s 23rd Governor in March 2026, has previously emphasised the importance of peace, stability, inclusive development and preservation of Nagaland’s cultural heritage.
