Heroin Worth ₹8.85 Crore Seized in Mizoram Joint Operation, One Held

Aizawl, August 18: Security forces in Mizoram have seized heroin valued at around ₹8.85 crore and arrested one person during a joint anti-smuggling operation in Saitual district.

The operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles in coordination with the Mizoram Police at Ngopa on August 16, 2026, following specific intelligence shared by a sister agency, according to the Assam Rifles.

During the operation, the joint team intercepted a vehicle and recovered 1.180 kg of Heroin No. 4 packed in 109 soap cases. Officials said the contraband had been ingeniously concealed inside a modified compartment located behind the vehicle’s rear registration plate.

One person was apprehended in connection with the seizure, while the vehicle used to transport the suspected narcotics was also taken into custody.

Following the operation, the seized heroin, vehicle and other recovered items were handed over to the Mizoram Police for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The seizure is the latest joint action by security agencies in the region aimed at disrupting the movement of illegal narcotics through Mizoram. The recovery also highlights the continuing efforts of enforcement agencies to detect concealed consignments and prevent drug trafficking networks from operating in the Northeast.

Further details about the identity of the arrested individual and the suspected source and destination of the consignment are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
