Sivasagar, September 7, 2026: Dikhowmukh College has paid tribute to its founding principal, late Haren Bhuyan, with the unveiling of a bust dedicated to his memory on the college campus.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled the bust and recalled Bhuyan’s lasting contribution to the educational and social life of the region. Sonowal said the veteran educator’s dedication and service deserved to be remembered with deep respect and should continue to inspire younger generations.
The memorial was conceived as a lasting recognition of Bhuyan’s role in the growth of Dikhowmukh College and his wider contribution to society. In his message, Sonowal expressed hope that the institution would continue to nurture students by bringing together education, culture and strong values.
The Union Minister also emphasised that education should go beyond academic achievement, urging students to develop discipline, dedication, humility and a sense of responsibility towards society. He encouraged the younger generation to draw inspiration from the life and principles of educators such as Bhuyan.
The event brought together Rajya Sabha MP Jogen Mohan, college principal Dr. Ranjit Kr. Boruah, Governing Body President Maniram Saikia, members of the college community and other distinguished guests.
The occasion also served as a reminder of the important role played by institutions such as Dikhowmukh College in the educational development of the region. The college, situated at Moglow, Gaurisagar, in Sivasagar district, was established in 1982, with Haren Bhuyan serving as its founding principal.
Sonowal extended his best wishes for the continued progress of the institution and for the bright future of its students. He expressed hope that Dikhowmukh College would remain committed to producing a generation grounded in knowledge, cultural awareness and values.
The unveiling of Bhuyan’s bust thus stands as more than a memorial ceremony—it represents the institution’s recognition of the legacy of an educator whose contribution remains an important part of Dikhowmukh College’s history.
