Guwahati, September 19, 2026: Colourful artwork and awareness messages became a part of Guwahati’s cleanliness campaign as school students actively participated in the second day of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, using creativity to spread awareness about cleanliness, waste segregation and responsible waste management.
The Day 2 activities were organised under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, with a special focus on “Swachh Pathshala – Yuva for Swachhata.” Students from various schools across Guwahati took part in awareness drives and wall-painting activities as part of the campaign.
Through paintings and creative messages, the students highlighted the importance of keeping public spaces and surroundings clean. Their artwork also focused on waste segregation at source and encouraged people to adopt four-way waste segregation, promoted through the message “Ab Do Nahi Chaar.”
The initiative was supported by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), which provided paints and brushes for the participating students. The young participants used the materials to transform walls into colourful awareness displays carrying messages on cleanliness and responsible waste management.
The campaign sought to bring the message of cleanliness beyond the classroom by encouraging students to become active participants in civic-awareness activities. Their involvement also aimed to encourage families, fellow students and local communities to adopt better waste-management practices.
The focus on four-way waste segregation is particularly significant as proper separation of waste at the source can help improve the efficiency of collection, processing and disposal. GMC has responsibility for solid waste management and related civic services within Guwahati.
The Day 2 programme also reflected the broader emphasis on Jan Bhagidari, or public participation, in cleanliness initiatives. By involving school students in awareness campaigns and creative activities, the programme sought to encourage a stronger sense of civic responsibility among the younger generation.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign is being observed with activities aimed at strengthening public participation in cleanliness and sanitation efforts. In Guwahati, the participation of students has added a creative and community-focused element to the campaign, with their artwork carrying messages intended to inspire cleaner and greener surroundings.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation shared details of the Day 2 activities through its official social media account, describing the student participation as an effort to inspire peers and communities towards a cleaner and greener Guwahati.
