Guwahati, September 7, 2026: Guwahati Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with an alleged drug-peddling case and recovered heroin during an operation in the city.
The action was carried out by a team from Pan Bazaar Police Station under the Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD), following intelligence inputs regarding suspected drug-related activity.
Police identified the arrested person as Rahul Das, 26, from Golaghat. According to the police, he was intercepted while allegedly carrying a container containing 7.79 grams of heroin.
Investigators also recovered five empty vials from the accused during the operation. The recovery of the suspected narcotic substance and the empty vials has been taken into consideration as part of the investigation into the alleged drug-peddling activity.
The arrest forms part of the ongoing campaign by Assam Police against the illegal trafficking and distribution of narcotic substances under the #AssamAgainstDrugs initiative.
Following the seizure, police initiated legal proceedings in the case. Further investigation is expected to establish the source of the recovered substance and determine whether the arrested person was connected to any wider drug network.
Authorities have continued to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations against drug-related activities across Guwahati, with intelligence-based actions playing an important role in identifying suspected peddlers and disrupting the supply of narcotic substances.
The latest operation once again highlights the continued focus of law-enforcement agencies on tackling the illegal drug trade and preventing narcotics from reaching communities in Assam.
