Guwahati, September 18, 2026: A special programme marking the launch of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign was held at the Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati on Thursday, September 17, with civic and public representatives joining the initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and public participation.
As part of the programme, the period from September 17 to October 17, 2026 has been designated as ‘Seva Samarpan’ Month. The initiative is intended to encourage sustained efforts towards cleanliness and civic responsibility across Guwahati.
The launch programme was attended by Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Member of Parliament from the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, along with Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, MLA of New Guwahati, and Dr. Tapan Das, MLA of Dimoria (SC).
Representing the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Mrigen Sarania, Mayor, Smita Roy, Deputy Mayor, and Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, ACS, Commissioner, were present at the event. Sabyasachi Kashyap, ACS, State Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Assam, also attended the programme along with other officials and dignitaries.
The Assam Administrative Staff College is located at Jawaharnagar, Khanapara, Guwahati, and serves as a major training institution of the Assam government.
The Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Assam identifies Sabyasachi Kashyap, ACS, as the State Mission Director of SBM(U)-Assam, confirming the designation used in the GMC announcement.
The GMC’s current official records also list Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, ACS, as Commissioner, while Mrigen Sarania and Smita Roy are listed as Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively.
The event comes amid continued civic cleanliness initiatives in Guwahati, with the municipal corporation seeking greater participation from communities and local organisations in sanitation and waste-management activities.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign will continue through the designated ‘Seva Samarpan’ Month, concluding on October 17.
