GMC Reviews Swachh Durga Puja Evaluation, Focuses on Cleanliness and Waste Management

Guwahati, October 27: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has undertaken a review of sanitation and waste management measures implemented during this year’s Durga Puja celebrations as part of its Swachh Durga Puja initiative.

A meeting involving members of the Core Committee and Evaluation Committee was held at the GMC office in Betkuchi to examine the assessment process and discuss how cleanliness standards were maintained at Puja venues across the city.

According to an official update shared by GMC on Tuesday, the discussions centred on sanitation arrangements, garbage disposal practices and the overall effectiveness of waste management measures adopted during the festivities.

The meeting was attended by GMC Speaker Bhupen Baruah, Mayor-in-Council (MIC) member Ashim Saikia and Joint Commissioner Moonmi Kalita, ACS. Executive Officers, Executive Engineers, Sanitary Inspectors and Assistant Sanitary Inspectors were also present.

The review forms part of GMC’s broader efforts to promote environmentally responsible celebrations and strengthen public awareness about sanitation. Through the Swachh Durga Puja initiative, the civic body aims to encourage Puja committees to adopt better waste management practices and maintain hygienic surroundings during major religious gatherings.

GMC also emphasised the importance of public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness across Guwahati. The corporation reiterated its commitment to responsible waste disposal, improved sanitation and greater community participation in making the city cleaner and more sustainable.

The civic body has not announced the final evaluation results or rankings of participating Puja committees in the latest update.
