Four-Day Theatre Workshop Organised at Gauhati University

Guwahati, September 18, 2026: A four-day theatre workshop aimed at introducing Gauhati University students to different aspects of acting and playwriting was inaugurated at the university on August 14, according to an official post by Gauhati University.

The ‘NAT Workshop’ was jointly organised by Natya Parishad, Gauhati University, and SAKOW, Guwahati, in collaboration with the Gauhati University Postgraduate Students’ Association.

The workshop brought together Gauhati University students with an interest in theatre and acting. According to the university, artists associated with Assam’s film and theatre sectors participated as instructors and conducted sessions covering different aspects of theatre practice.

The sessions focused on areas related to playwriting and acting, giving participating students an opportunity to learn about theatrical techniques and creative approaches from practitioners working in Assam’s performing arts scene.

The initiative also provided a platform for students interested in theatre to engage with experienced artists and develop their understanding of stage performance and dramatic writing.

Gauhati University has an established academic focus on performing arts, including a postgraduate programme in Performing Arts (Theatre Studies and Acting) that covers areas such as theatre history, dramaturgy and performance practice.

The university’s official website also lists Natya Parishad among student and cultural bodies associated with campus activities.

The workshop was described by the university as a collaborative effort to provide students with practical exposure to theatre and acting, while connecting them with artists from Assam’s film and theatre community.
