New Delhi, June 13: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that every rupee allocated to the defence sector is being utilized to strengthen India’s security and asserted that no allegations of corruption can be made against the current system.
Addressing a public gathering, Singh criticized past defence procurement scandals, stating that some political parties had compromised national security for financial gains and therefore had no moral right to seek votes from the people. He referred to controversies such as the Bofors scam, the HDW submarine deal, the Tata truck procurement case and the AgustaWestland helicopter scandal.
Highlighting the growth in defence spending, Singh said India’s defence budget has increased significantly over the years. He noted that the defence budget, which stood at around ₹2.5 lakh crore earlier, has now risen to approximately ₹8 lakh crore.
The Defence Minister said the increase in spending has been accompanied by transparency and accountability. He credited defence officials, military officers and soldiers for ensuring that public funds are used effectively to strengthen the country’s security infrastructure.
“Every rupee of India’s money is being spent to make the nation’s security stronger. No one can level even a single allegation of corruption against the present system,” Singh said.
He further emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the armed forces and enhancing India’s defence capabilities through transparent governance and efficient utilization of resources.
