Dibrugarh: Authorities have stepped up action against unauthorised commercial activity inside the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) campus, with the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) carrying out an eviction drive on Wednesday.
During the operation, municipal officials removed illegal makeshift food stalls and other unauthorised structures operating within the medical college premises. The drive also focused on concerns related to waste disposal, unhygienic conditions and the sale of tobacco and gutka products inside the campus.
According to the reported information, officials expressed concern over vendors operating without authorisation and selling tobacco-related products within the premises of the major healthcare institution.
The latest operation is part of a series of enforcement and sanitation actions undertaken at the AMCH campus over recent months.
Earlier, during a sanitation inspection on July 17, authorities reportedly found food items being stored inside the bathroom of a food stall. The discovery had raised serious questions about hygiene and food safety practices.
In another enforcement drive conducted on May 31, illegal shops and temporary structures that were reportedly contributing to traffic congestion on roads within the campus were removed.
The authorities had also carried out a similar operation in December 2024, when unauthorised kiosks located near the blood bank, super-speciality blocks and hostel areas were cleared.
Wednesday’s action marks another attempt by the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation to address unauthorised commercial activity, sanitation concerns and traffic-related problems within the AMCH complex.
The repeated enforcement drives indicate continued efforts by the civic authorities to maintain cleanliness, improve movement within the campus and ensure that commercial activities inside the premises comply with applicable regulations.
