GUWAHATI: The groundwork for Census 2027 continued in Guwahati with officials carrying out a house-listing exercise at the residence of Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Ramen Deka in the Chatribari area.
The exercise was conducted at K.C. Road as part of the ongoing preparations for the nationwide Census, according to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
During the field activity, officials systematically recorded household details and collected information required for the upcoming Census exercise. The house-listing phase is intended to establish comprehensive coverage of residential units before the population enumeration stage.
The GMC said such field-level exercises are important for ensuring that households are properly covered and that the information collected during the Census is accurate and reliable.
The civic body also appealed for continued cooperation from residents, noting that public participation is an important component of the Census process. Accurate information collected from households will contribute to better government planning and the delivery of public services.
Census 2027 is being conducted in phases across the country. In Assam, the Houselisting and Housing Census phase is scheduled from August 17 to September 15, 2026, according to the official Census schedule.
The information gathered during the exercise will form part of the broader database used for planning infrastructure, housing, healthcare, education, welfare schemes and other public services.
Shri Ramen Deka, a senior political leader from Assam, has been serving as the Governor of Chhattisgarh since July 2024. His participation in the house-listing exercise highlights the involvement of residents from different sections of society in the national Census process.
The latest activity in Guwahati comes as field-level preparations continue across Assam, with authorities working towards ensuring comprehensive household coverage and an organised Census exercise.
The success of the Census will depend significantly on accurate information and cooperation from residents as enumerators carry out house-listing and subsequent population-related activities across the state.
