
Guwahati: Fifteen teachers from across Assam have been selected for the State Teachers’ Award 2026 in recognition of their contribution to education, innovative teaching practices, commitment to students and schools, and service to the wider community.
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu congratulated the 15 teachers in a post on X, describing them as distinguished educators whose dedication has contributed to strengthening the state’s education system. He said the selection followed a merit-based evaluation covering academic commitment, innovative approaches to teaching, contributions to students and schools, community engagement and exemplary service.
According to the official notice issued by the Director of Secondary Education, Assam, the selected teachers represent 15 districts and include principals, post graduate teachers, assistant teachers, head teachers and a headmaster from secondary and elementary schools.
The awardees from the secondary category are Shyamalima Borah, Principal, Malow Ali Higher Secondary School, Jorhat; Bijan Roy Bhowmick, Assistant Teacher, Kamakhya Vidyalay High School, Kamrup Metro; Manab Bharali, Post Graduate Teacher, Govt. Gurdon H.S. School, Nalbari; Riju Kumar Chutia, Post Graduate Teacher, PM Shri Rahmaria Higher Secondary School, Dibrugarh; Probin Koch, Post Graduate Teacher, Tezpur Govt. HS School, Sonitpur; Ranendra Kumar Das, Principal, PM Shri Bhella H.S. School, Barpeta; Azizur Rahman, Post Graduate Teacher, PM Shri Jamadarhat Janata HS School, Dhubri; Manik Chandra Nath, Assistant Teacher, Barapujia Higher Secondary School, Nagaon; and Bibi Prasad Brahma, Assistant Teacher, Harinaguri High School, Kokrajhar.

The elementary category includes Pulaska Rajkhowa, Head Teacher, Chowkial LP School, Golaghat; Saranga Nirmalia, Head Teacher, Hatikhal Assamese LP School, Lumding, Hojai; Diti Moni Dutta, Assistant Teacher, Phatikachowa Abhoipuria MVS, Dibrugarh; Befula Deka Saikia, Assistant Teacher, No. 182 Gobinda Dham LPS, Darrang; Swastyayan Deb, Assistant Teacher, 57 No. Tikal Par TE LPS, Cachar; and Kamsing Hanse, Headmaster, Bakaliaghat Govt. M.V. School, Karbi Anglong.
The official notice states that the teachers were selected on the recommendation of the State Level Selection Committee and with the approval of the Government of Assam.
The award ceremony is scheduled for September 5, 2026, which is observed as Teachers’ Day in India. The selected teachers have been asked to report at Sri Sri Damodardeva International Auditorium, Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati-37, at 9:00 am to receive the awards.
