Guwahati: A group of 233 students from Nalbari and Udalguri districts has reached Guwahati under the Assam government’s flagship Aarohan 2026-27 programme, giving meritorious school students an opportunity to explore academic and educational institutions beyond their regular classroom environment.
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu interacted with the first group of students from the two districts at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on Monday. During the interaction, the minister spoke with the students about their educational aspirations and joined them for breakfast.
The Aarohan initiative was launched in the 2022-23 academic year under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with the objective of nurturing the academic potential of talented students from government schools across Assam.
The programme uses educational exposure and knowledge-oriented visits to encourage students to pursue their studies with greater dedication and focus. Visits to institutions such as IIT Guwahati are intended to give students firsthand exposure to higher education, research and career opportunities.
According to Pegu, the first group from Nalbari and Udalguri comprises 233 students accompanied by their mentors. Their educational tour is scheduled to conclude on August 12.
The minister said the wider Aarohan 2026-27 programme will involve 4,041 students and their mentors across 16 groups. The programme is scheduled to continue until November 5.
The initiative is being implemented under the supervision of Samagra Shiksha Assam, with the state government aiming to provide academically promising students with greater exposure to leading educational institutions and motivate them to set higher goals for their future.
The interaction at IIT Guwahati marks another step in the government’s efforts to connect talented school students with premier institutions and encourage them to pursue academic excellence through greater exposure and mentorship.
